For director Alan Chambers the October 2008 slot gave the chance to return to a much-loved
author, namely Noel Coward. Blithe Spirit takes place in the living room of Charles
Condomine’s house in Kent. The staging for this setting was provided by the combined
efforts of many Ratae members and friends to build the set and with the particular
efforts of Malcolm Wardle to decorate it so effectively. The lighting designed by
Mark Baxter was also especially effective, with contrasting atmospheres for the seance
and also for the ghostly appearances of Charles’ first wife Elvira.
